In every season and for every interest, there’s so much to see and do in Sedona, AZ. Sedona’s world famous scenery ranges from exquisite nooks discovered by lucky adventurers to the grandiose Red Rock vistas of international acclaim. It is possible to combine education with fun on a family outing, and burn off a little energy on one of the many different Sedona hiking trails offered in the surrounding Coconino National Forest.

With Sedona’s backyard being made up of more than 100 000 acres of pristine national forest, it is truly a dream for the outdoor enthusiast. Although there are many different options to experience the outdoors, hiking remains one of the top favorites for all ages. Hiking can be experienced by almost anyone and the well marked trails and ample parking provide visitors and locals plenty of options and information regarding hiking around Sedona.

Young families with small children will find easy trails filled with many opportunities for exploration and discovery along the way. The area is filled with abundant wildlife providing natural openings to discuss their habitats and food sources. Keep your eyes open for artifacts and signs of the earliest Native settlers of the area. The Red Rocks have many stories to tell.

More mobile explorers may wish to test themselves with some of the more challenging hikes in the region. Depending on your needs and fitness level, there are routes to satisfy just about everyone. Plan your trip around one or more of the amazing energy vortexes of the area or choose a route that tests the physical and mental endurance of your group. Regardless of the goal, each hiking trip will no doubt provide its own rewards.

As with all outdoor activities, some caution much be taken in preparation. Be sure to pack plenty of water to avoid dehydration in the desert and carry the proper emergency supplies and ample food for the group in the case of an unforeseen event. Good hiking boots are a must for any serious trip as the Red Rocks can be hard on the feet.
