Sugary Sweet View of Sedona
by Crystal Sincoff
Why hadn’t I done this hike before? I’ve lived here all of these years and never hiked Sugerloaf. This hike is smack dab in the middle of Sedona. If you aren’t sure where it is the trail head could be pretty easy to overlook. It’s located in a residential neighborhood. I drove past the entrance the first time and had to turn around in someone’s driveway.

A Walk in the Green of Sedona
By Crystal Sincoff
A friend and I found ourselves down by the Chavez Ranch swimming area yesterday. I had found this trail head by accident a few years ago. I like to go on drives with no real destination in mind and was taking the scenic ride down Upper Red Rock Loop road and instead of heading to Crescent Moon Ranch, I decided to head left instead of right, and take the dirt road less traveled by, with no real idea what I would find on the other side. Once to the top of the hill there are some amazing views of Courthouse Butte and Cathedral Rock, along with the local homesteads in the valley. You make a left at the hilltop and go down a winding narrow road, that after about ten minutes takes you to the Chavez Ranch trail head.

Fall Colors on Huckaby Trail in Sedona
Sedona experiences a stealthy, albeit radiant, autumn. It doesn’t show up where you’d expect it, on high slopes. The rocks don’t blush any redder in fall. Autumn erupts in drainages and canyon bottoms. The Huckaby plunges you right into the heart of this riparian riot.
The Red Rock Pass
The Red Rock Pass program is a conservation tool designed to protect, enhance, and maintain Sedona’s awe-inspiring red rock landscape for the American public today and into the future.
As a “high impact recreation area,” the level of care and maintenance required for the Red Rock landscape exceeds that needed in other National Forest areas. Revenue from the pass program “is making a difference” providing improved visitor information, environmental protection and lasting memorable experiences!
